Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC on January 9, 1914 by three great men. The Most Honorable A. Langston Taylor, The Most Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and The Most Honorable Charles I. Brown created the fraternity in hopes that it would be a part OF the general Community rather than a part FROM the general community. They wished and wanted their fraternity to exist as part of even a greater brotherhood which would be devoted to the "inclusive we" rather than the "exclusive we".
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,Inc. was founded on the principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service and follows the motto of "Culture for Service and Service for Humanity." Phi Beta Sigma is an organization of inclusion - men of character, who provided their best and appealed to the best in others to serve humanity with dignity and respect, *The Peoples Fraternity*. Sigma is a real brotherhood dedicated to service via application of education obtained in scholarship. It must not be a selfish brotherhood, but a universal brotherhood.Delta Omicron was founded on the campus of The Ohio State University on May 8, 1969 by Honorable Brother Wendell B. Sims of Chicago, Illinois. On November 15, 1969 Honorable Brother Sims chartered a line of six, The Soulful Six, Bro. Reginald A. Wilkerson, Bro. John Y. Gentry, Bro. Anthony R. Woody, Bro. Mitchell M. Dickerson, Bro. Raymond Sales, and Bro. David G. Williams.
The Founder came to The Ohio State University on a prayer and dedication with a plan to take Phi Beta Sigma outside of its normal reigns- to a more challenging, more predominately caucatian, and Big Ten University- where he would hopefully found an establishment that would help the African-American caucus success rate and promote unity among the African-American community. In his members he searched for men of diversity, talent, intelligence, hard work ethic, sincerity, fun, and most importantly a common notion to succeed.Today we strive to follow and exceed what our founder set out to do by continuing to seek out new ways to improve our surrounding communities and ourselves. It is through our continuous and unstoppable strides to exceed the standards of Greek life and societal boundaries that we have now become known as D.O. or better yet the OZO chapter.
